Hi,

First I would like to say thanks for this wonderful software. My ATV is working great with the 25 image. though there are some minor glitches. I can’t get my weather app to function properly (it’s not the biggest deal, but it isn’t getting any info. it just says updating and then nothing happens).

What I really wanted to ask you is, if it is possible to update the image myself to the xbmc eden beta 2. and if not, when will you compile a new image of the eden release? are you waiting for a completely stable version of eden or is this project no longer in the works (I hope it isn’t so).

Once again, thank you so much

Yes, the project is definitely still being developed . Yes you can compile your own xbmc and install it right on the atv .. though there have been some changes to required libs to build xbmc Eden B2. Weather went south (no pun intended) due to a change in the old weather.com api which is now resolved but you would have to update to Eden.

I might suggest you go to the AtvCloner forums for directions on how to compile xbmc from their git repo and install it on your AtvCloner linux install http://forum.dynaflashtech.net/viewforum.php?f=3

That said I am pretty close to releasing a new image with some new dependencies that compiling xbmc eden will require.

Also, depending on if your using the default atvcloner skin Quartz, pecinko the skins author is working on a new version that I have to say is awesome but its not quite there yet. Kinda like xbmc eden. I have a sneaking suspicion they will both (xbmc and quartz) come together at about the same time.

I would suggest you check out the above linked forum and if I can help you get to where you want to be ... I will.

Also if you have access to irc feel free to join #atvlinux on freenode.net for more real time support etc.

@Antonio_Carneiro
Due to the power management hardware (or lack thereof) getting shutdown via software much less Hibernate working has not been successful for me yet. Notice that even the stock atv os software has no such features.

I have not looked into netflix though iirc there was an xbmc addon in development ... I don't know how or if it works. I don't think Silverlight compiles on linux iirc.

Please! In the next Linux Image insert two options (turn off Apple TV and hibernate).
The 1st generation use 60watts.
The 2nd Generation use 6watts (Energy Saver)
I Have Both. I prefer the 1st generation because works in Full HD Mode (1920 x 1080) with a crystal card and Linux Image.
I would like to use a netflix its is possible?
The big problem is install Microsoft Silverligth plugin 5.0 to use a instant view in Netflix.
I tried to use Boxee with netflix plugin, but doesnt work.
Thanks!

@dkstudio
DK, well, as far as AppleTV solutions the Atv 1 w/ the chd chip running xbmc linux is imo, by far the best performing solution (which I guess is obvious since its the route I took) since at the very minimum it is the only solution that can output 1080p, the atv 1 stock as well as the atv 2 can only output 720p.

As far as easiest way to mod it, imo it is using AtvCloner and the provided linux image since you have to open up the atv anyway to install the chd chip, again beware that you will lose the appletv's wifi when you install the chd chip since it replaces the wifi card, so you will have to use ethernet for connectivity.

To to the breadth and scope of you comment and resulting questions, further conversation may be best suited to the forums http://forum.dynaflashtech.net/viewforum.php?f=3&sid=62a326b863a82b26c4e358fc163bd3ae

Maybe join up there and I could try to answer any other question, as well there are a few other folk there that are quite knowledgeable and may be willing to chime in.

Regarding the AppleTV and forums ... beware there are a lot of misconceptions about the various configurations of AppleTV and what they can and cannot do.

DYNA

If you could lend your expertise I would greatly appreciate it. Perhaps you can get an idea of what I am trying to accomplish with the details below.

I've been reading ATV forums for the past several hours. It's definitely a tech geeks arena and most of it is difficult to comprehend for me. I am not a developer and barely get around in Terminal for basic Mac OS trouble shooting when needed.

I've been playing with Plex, XBMC, Boxee for a few months on my MBPro just to get acquainted prior to building a new system. I purchased a Synology 411J NAS and an ATV2 that will connect to an Integra 40.1 Receiver, a Fujitsu 50" Plasma and a Sony BDP-S580 BluRay.

My system integrator built the rack on Friday. He realized, after purchasing the ATV2, that it does not support analog output to integrate with my Crestron systems many zones so I'll have to return it and get an ATV1 on eBay. Which seems like is a better device anyway.

However, this jailbreaking thing for the ATV1 is all too daunting for my head. I have jailbroken a few iPhones in the past and it was fine but his seems like a different animal altogether.

Is there an EXACT step by step to Jailbreak the ATV1 to use XBMC? Should I install Crystal HD for better performance?

I kind of wish I could just send you the gadgets and you could send them back juiced up, ready to plug in...but that wouldn't teach me anything, right? Do I really need to learn this stuff?

I'm determined to build an awesome home theater system controlled by Crestron, via my iPad by a module made by Autonomic Controls (http://www.autonomiccontrols.com/products_appletv.php). The rack is in a closet and not visible for IR control so all communication to the system is made via wifi and Crestron.

Can you lead me in precisely the right direction or is this stuff only for developers?

Best
