AtvCloner XBMC Linux Image 25 (beta) now available!

Notice: I noticed a slight issue with this image after offering it in that XBMC > Settings > System > Audio > Audio Output is not preset to hdmi audio as per previous images. This was an oversight. Instructions for setting audio output for both HDMI and Optical are posted here. Sorry for any inconvenience.

So, as XBMC goes into a “hard freeze” for 11.0 “Eden” it is also apparent that any dependencies are now pretty much frozen as well. Therefore I thought it might make sense to release a “beta” of AtvCloner XBMC Linux Image 25 which is probably the last image before XBMC releases an official public version 11.0. You can download it here.

This image has XBMCs git head (latest and greatest from the development repository) from literally this morning installed by default. This includes python 2.6, turbo jpeg (read: faster UI performance), AFP networking as well as NFS networking. Also … AirPlay and AirTunes (yes, your xbmc linux AppleTV 1 is now Airplay and Airtunes compatible!). Yes, it is kinda neat to send music or videos from iTunes, iPod, iPad or iPhone … via airplay/airtunes to your XBMC linux modded AppleTV 1.

Better yet, for advanced users … all of the dependencies and the build environment to compile and install XBMC up to and through the upcoming XBMC 11.0 code named “Eden” are in place. !

Why “beta”? Well because I intend to release a final Image 25 once the default skin Quartz has a new upcoming official release and once XBMC 11.0 is official. That said … this image has everything needed to run and/or compile the latest and greatest on your AppleTV 1.

Now, while I thought it might be prudent to wait for the official XBMC 11.0 public release … the improvements are just to hard to keep under wraps, as well there have been plenty of dependencies added since Image 24 … so, here is AtvCloner XBMC Linux Image 25 (beta) via bit torrent!

Please! In the next Linux Image insert two options (turn off Apple TV and hibernate).
    The 1st generation use 60watts.
The 2nd Generation use 6watts (Energy Saver)
I Have Both. I prefer the 1st generation because works in Full HD Mode (1920 x 1080) with a crystal card and Linux Image.
I would like to use a netflix its is possible?
The big problem is install Microsoft Silverligth plugin 5.0 to use a instant view in Netflix.
I tried to use Boxee with netflix plugin, but doesnt work.
    Thanks!

    @Antonio_Carneiro
Due to the power management hardware (or lack thereof) getting shutdown via software much less Hibernate working has not been successful for me yet. Notice that even the stock atv os software has no such features.

I have not looked into netflix though iirc there was an xbmc addon in development … I don’t know how or if it works. I don’t think Silverlight compiles on linux iirc.

    Hi,

First I would like to say thanks for this wonderful software. My ATV is working great with the 25 image. though there are some minor glitches. I can’t get my weather app to function properly (it’s not the biggest deal, but it isn’t getting any info. it just says updating and then nothing happens).

What I really wanted to ask you is, if it is possible to update the image myself to the xbmc eden beta 2. and if not, when will you compile a new image of the eden release? are you waiting for a completely stable version of eden or is this project no longer in the works (I hope it isn’t so).

Once again, thank you so much

Yes, the project is definitely still being developed . Yes you can compile your own xbmc and install it right on the atv .. though there have been some changes to required libs to build xbmc Eden B2. Weather went south (no pun intended) due to a change in the old weather.com api which is now resolved but you would have to update to Eden.

I might suggest you go to the AtvCloner forums for directions on how to compile xbmc from their git repo and install it on your AtvCloner linux install http://forum.dynaflashtech.net/viewforum.php?f=3

That said I am pretty close to releasing a new image with some new dependencies that compiling xbmc eden will require.

Also, depending on if your using the default atvcloner skin Quartz, pecinko the skins author is working on a new version that I have to say is awesome but its not quite there yet. Kinda like xbmc eden. I have a sneaking suspicion they will both (xbmc and quartz) come together at about the same time.

I would suggest you check out the above linked forum and if I can help you get to where you want to be … I will.

Also if you have access to irc feel free to join #atvlinux on freenode.net for more real time support etc.
